ANGOLA AFCON STARS SHUN TEAM PREPS

MBABANE – The national team Sihlangu will face only 12 players in the Angola squad that were playing in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

All the players who were part of the team that competed in the biggest football tournament in Africa, failed to show up for camp and meet in preparations of the CHAN Qualifier match against Sihlangu billed for July 28 at Mavuso Sports Centre, with the return match a week later.

Most teams failed to release the players for the camp and meeting citing that their players need some rest after the AFCON tournament.
According to the website, angop.ao (Agencia Angola Press), only members of the FAF and technical staff of the national team led by the Serbian coach Srdjan Vasiljevic were present in the spot where the meeting to start camp was supposed to take place.

Angop learnt from a source of the FAF that the domestic teams received the call-up in due time for this commitment of the national football team, following the squad’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

“Football players of Angola’s domestic championship missed Sunday’s concentration meeting addressed by the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) ahead of the match with Eswatini for the CHAN 2020, Angop has learnt. 

The absence of players of the domestic championship ahead of the CHAN match, was due to some teams failing to release their players as they suggested that their players were tired following their participation in the Africa Cup of Nations,” wrote the website. Angola was eliminated in the last 16 of the AFCON.
Sihlangu started their camp last week under Serbian coach Kostadin Papic in preparations of the match.
