MBABANE – The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) is hoping to raise about E10 million which will financially assist the national team, Sihlangu in their campaign in CHAN, AFCON and FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The country’s football mother said part of the plan to raise the funds is to commercialise the Sihlangu matches as almost all home matches will be broadcast live on TV, including Eswatini TV, starting with the second leg home match against Djibouti.

EFA is now selling advertising space through the field perimeter boards that are now open to all companies to advertise their products and brand. The perimeter boards that are 6m each cost E3 000 while its E5 000 for two.

Sihlangu is likely to play about 17 games in all competitions from now on until 2021 and each away game almost costs about E1 million while home games are estimated to cost about E500 000. The funds will also cater for the development teams including women’s squads.

EFA Chief Executive Officer Frederick Mngomezulu said Sihlangu was now more like a club and they had a huge budget ahead which they had to try and raise. He said the funds will go towards the team’s travelling, player’s allowances and the training camps.

Sihlangu is yet to play big games in the three tournaments being CHAN, AFCON and FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
“We are selling a space that is available in these international matches particularly in the perimeters of the football pitch through the perimeter board where the national team will be playing, especially the home games,” he said.

He said they invited companies to contact EFA over the advertising deals. He said even one company can buy the whole space or several of them.
“We are giving opportunity to the country to market and promote their products on a mutual benefit. This is a marketing drive to raise funds for Sihlangu as we are aware they are very expensive competitions that required funds that can reach E10 million. We urge companies to start marketing their products through his facilities,” he said.
Sihlangu is likely to play about 17 games between now and 2021 when the FIFA World Cup and AFCON Games Qualifiers ends.
