UEDF’S MELUSI EARNS E7 000 IN 22 MINUTES

MBABANE – In about 22 minutes, long distance athlete Melusi Khumalo earned E7 000.


This was during the Swazi Plaza Night Run where he finished first to win the first prize of E7 000. He finished the 7km in 21:43 minutes on Saturday night. This was his second victory in the seventh edition of the race having won it in 2017.


The Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) athlete said it was an easy race for him as he was used to the route. Each kilometre, Khumalo earned E1 000. Coming second was South Africa’s Nedbank runner Joel Mnone, who took home E4 000.

“It was a good race for me. I’ve sprinted from the start to finish as I’m a long distance runner and I have a lot of stamina. It was a good race. I’m happy with the prizes which I won. My next race is the Eswatini 5km run,” he said.


Meanwhile, in the ladies section, South Africa’s Boxer athlete Thandi Sihohle was first and got the first prize of E7 000. Second was Samkelisiwe Thwala from the Royal Eswatini Police Services (REPS) with Sebenele Shabalala also from the same team finishing third.


Part of the event was Minister of Tinkhundla Administration and Development David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala, Siphocosini Member of Parliament (MP) Mduduzi Matsebula, Swazi Plaza Centre Manager Nomsa Mhlanga and Golden Foot Club (GFC) President Tokky Hou.
