STERN TEST FOR ‘WESLIANS’ IN DERBY

MBABANE – It is early days in the season but spectators are already having a dose of the Manzini derby.

All roads lead to Somhlolo National Stadium, where neighbours Manzini Wanderers and Moneni Pirates renew their rivalry tonight.  Not only are bragging rights at stake, but a win will steer one of the sides to the top four.

Pirates and Wanderers are seventh and eighth, respectively, with four points apiece after three matches. Wanderers, who welcome back veteran gaffer Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe, are fresh from a surprising 3-1 win over holders Green Mamba.

The maroon and white outfit have to cut ‘their honeymoon’ short in a bid to grind another big win. The likes of Mike Dombo and Laurent Abbah will hope to bring their ‘A game’ again against a team they failed to beat last season. The last meeting back on February 16 this year ended 1-0 in favour of the ‘Sea Robbers.’

For Pirates, it is also a must-win to keep up with the chasing pack.  After holding another giant in Mbabane Highlanders to a 1-all draw in their last fixture, they are confident of frustrating the next heavyweight standing in their way.  Lizwe Zwane will be in the spotlight after taking the league by storm. He has scored in his side’s last two matches.
With both teams unbeaten in the last two matches, they will want to prove that they have turned the corner.
