MBABANE – Attack is the buzzword in South Africa’s Bidvest Wits’ camp ahead of a stop in the country.

The ‘Students’, as Wits are widely known,  will face the country’s CAF Confederation Cup envoys, Young Buffaloes, in a second round first leg encounter at Mavuso Sports Centre tomorrow at 3pm.

Bidvest Wits creative midfielder Thabang Monare was quoted by goal.com explaining how attacking Young Buffaloes would be better than sitting back and inviting unnecessary pressure.

Monare decried the fact that they would face an unknown opponent but stressed on the need to pass the Buffaloes test to stand a chance to face familiar opponents who include TS Galaxy in future. The latter are South Africa’s other representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup after winning the Nedbank Cup ahead of Kaizer Chiefs in May.

“It’s very important to go out there and get a win in the first leg but we don’t know the side that we’ll play against.
“I think it’s going to be difficult considering the fact it’s their home ground but we are ready and prepared to fight for a win,” Monare was quoted saying.
The 29-year-old midfielder insisted that modern football was demanding that they needed to go all out and attack the Eswatini outfit instead of sitting back.
“I think the best way to defend in modern football is to attack rather than to sit back,” he stressed.

“That’s always been the plan in the team; to keep our shape defensively and attack from that. Modern football is about attacking because if you sit back, you invite unnecessary pressure and mistakes,” concluded Monare.

Young Buffaloes coach Dominic Kunene’s phone rang unanswered when sought for comment on the opposition player’s comments. However, in a recent interview with this publication, he had stressed on the need to double their efforts to beat Wits at home.

“Now that they have noticed their downfall, they will try to fix that and be stronger when they face us,” Kunene had said when Wits coach Gavin Hunt lamented their poor home record. Hunt had also highlighted that Buffaloes were a closed book while South African media reports had earlier suggested that Wits were not prioritising the CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Meanwhile, reports suggest Wits will arrive in the country today via the Ngwenya/ Oshoek Border Post. They are expected to train at the host venue today at 3pm, as per the CAF rules.

Supporters who wish to watch the clash will pay E40. Referees for the match, on the other hand, will be from Lesotho. Osiase William Koto will man the game and he will be assisted by countrymen Souru Phatsoane, Lesupi Samuel Puputla and Lebalang Martin Mokete. The latter will be the fourth official. The match commissioner is Acacio Victor Teixeira from Mozambique.
