COLANI WINS MONTHLY MUG
MBABANE – Mbabane Golf Club Executive Committee Secretary Colani Dlamini is the ESRIC Monthly Mug winner for September.
Dlamini produced a sterling performance to beat a highly-determined field of over 40 golfers, who braved the scorching heat to participate in this Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation-sponsored competition at Mbabane Golf Club on Saturday. So excellent was Dlamini that he putted for birdies in the entire last nine to earn a 67 net. The second prize went to veteran golfer Gideon Mhlongo, who carded a cool 68 net ahead of Welcome Mhlanga, who was just a point behind. Placed fourth with a 70 net was the ever-consistent Zwelisha Dlamini, who beat senior citizen Leon P. Bashasha on a countback. The next best winner, occupying the sixth position having carded a 72 net, was Clement Dlamini ahead of the trio of Thami Selbea, Walter Dlamini and Valentine Maziya who all scored a 73 net, respectively.
Secret
Asked the secret behind winning the competition, Dlamini said more than anything, it was having the belief that he could make it and staying focused during the entire 18 holes.
“I had enough sleep the previous night and good breakfast that kept my energy levels consistent. In the first nine, I did not use my driver because I wanted to stay on the fairway and then I became aggressive in the second nine,” Dlamini said. On how he felt about winning, he said; “I am actually over the moon that my golf has improved in the last three to four months. The ESRIC Monthly Mug is so special to me, I missed the last one by a shot to Sam Richards after missing two short putts in the last two holes. Otherwise, I’m enjoying my game and just need to improve the distance on my driver,” he said. This was Dlamini’s second Monthly Mug victory in two years.
The best gross prize with a 72 score went to professional golfer Peter Dlamini followed by Vusi ‘Futis’ Dlamini, who got 74 gross. On another note, Mbabane Golf Club captain Genius Sihlongonyane announced that there would be a club competition next Saturday followed by the MTN Monthly Masters on 12 October 2019. The club will host its annual general meeting on the same day during which new office bearers will be elected.
