IMBUBE 10KM, 3.3KM SOLD OUT
MBABANE – If you wanted to be part of the 10km and the 3.3km in the Imbube Marathon on Sunday, forget and smile.
The races that are favourite as they mostly accommodates non-competing athletes, have already been sold out as the target was 2 500. Eswatini National Pension Fund (ENPF) Marketing Manager and Race Officer Mlungisi Dlamini confirmed yesterday that they had reached the target of 2 500. The Imbube Marathon also comprises the main race that is 42.2km, 21.1km and the 3.3km. All the races will start and finish at Somhlolo National Stadium. Dlamini said now runners can only register in the 21.1km and the 42.2km through the later registration period that closes on Saturday, the previous day of the race.
“The 10km and the 3.3km have already been sold out and if you were not registered, then you stand of chance of participating. Now late registration will continue with the main race which is the 42.2km and the half marathon,” he said. The Imbube Marathon is expected to attract a large numbers of runners that will be over 5 000. Some of the athletes will be coming from all over in countries including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, Lesotho, Zambia and Namibia, among others. There are great prizes to be won in all the four categories.
Winners
The best winner on the day can take home E60 000 if he is a liSwati while E30 000 is at stake in the 42.2km open in both males and females. Winner in the open category in the 20km will take home E5 000 while the runner-up will get E2 000 with third finishers taking E1 000 and E500 for fourth finishers. The prizes apply to both males and females. E7 500 is up for grabs in the half marathon with the runner-up getting E3 350. Athletes may start to collect their pack races bags from this morning at Happy Valley Hotel until Saturday afternoon.
