SA RUNNERS RULE IMBUBE MARATHON

LOBAMBA – Visiting South Africa’s athletes proved invincible on the road during yesterday’s celebrated Imbube Marathon.


Over 5 000 athletes had defied the hot weather conditions to take part in the fourth edition of the prestigious event graced by the presence of race patron His Majesty King Mswati III. The race featured 42.2, 21.1, 10 and 3.3km events.


The venue proved to be a happy hunting ground for the South Africans, who swept the boards. 
Winner in the main race (full marathon) was Bonginkhosi Mavuso of Nedbank South Africa with a time of 02:28:58. The top four was made up of athletes from the neighbouring country while fifth-placed Amos Thwala from Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) was the Eswatini champion. He clocked 02:35:16 hours.


Sibusiso Nzima who is also from Nedbank South Africa was the half marathon winner with a time of 01:09:04 hours.
In the 10km event, which attracted the biggest contingent of about 1 600 runners, UEDF’s Melusi Khumalo was the champion with a time of 31:24 minutes.
Meanwhile, runners from all walks of life came out to push their limit as per the event’s slogan. Members of the royal family, ministers and companies’ big wigs also managed to sweat it out.
