MBABANE – Several runners celebrated improved finishing times during the past Saturday’s Mbabane Parkrun.

The 5km timed run starts and finishes at Mbabane Club every Saturday from 8am. Up to five runners celebrated new personal bests (PBs) on the day and they included former champion Mduduzi Dlamini, who clocked an improved 16:44 minutes.  Others were Nkosinathi P. Nkambule, Ndumiso Ndeve, Kwanele P. Motsa and Lomangisi Dlamini-Sserumaga.

Winning

Winning on the day was Nkululeko Gama, whose name has become synonymous with the top spot in the event. It was his 45th run in the past weekend and he scanned his barcode after 15:47 minutes. His personal best is 14:56 minutes. The fastest lady on the day was Simphiwe Gama with a time of 24:25:00 minutes. She was ranked 19th out of 77 overall. Like in previous weeks, several runners were debutants on the day. The run is loved by many in the country and beyond. It attracts 88 runners per week on average. Most of the runners complete the course within 30 minutes and walkers in about an hour. Parkrun is not about competing to win but to improve fitness and health. Most runners compete against time, not each other and athletes use it for training. Participation in the run is free. To register, one must log onto www.parkrun.co.za.
