MKHULUS SHINE IN INYATSI SWAZI FRONTIER

MAGUGA – Aging cyclists did not just add numbers at the Inyatsi Swazi Frontier.

The three-day pairs’ stage race started at Hawane Resort outside Mbabane on Thursday and ended on Saturday at Maguga Lodge in Northern Hhohho. The mkhulus category, which is for a duet with an average age of 50, was well represented. Champions in the category were Roger Nicholson and Ernest Welch, who clocked 11:29:52 hours to rank fifth overall. In second place were Geoff Bihl and Rob Lundie, who reached the winning point after 14:02:48 hours. There were eight teams in the sector.

Celebrated

Another sub-category of the celebrated race is the one which is styled Buffalos. It is for teams with a total weight of 180kg or more. Champions in the category were John Grobler and Jeremy Hubert with a time of 14:51:25 hours. Winners overall were debutants  in youngsters Sihle Dlamini (21) and Lungelo Mlangeni (23) who endured the torturous course while representing International Tool Hire.  Despite being forced to a photo finish on day one (Thursday) and stage three by Christo Carelsen and Thulani Gule, the Dig Deep Racing Club duo cruised to a historic win with the total fastest time of 10:02:20 hours. After stage three at Maguga Lodge on Saturday, the different category winners went to the podium to claim their prizes during a championship dinner.
