U-17S SHOCK MALAWI AT HOME IN COSAFA

MBABANE – The national team, Under-17 squad are right on track of making it to the semi-finals of the COSAFA Men’s Championships after a 2-1 victory over hosts, Malawi yesterday.

The Gcina ‘Magiyane’ Dlamini led side recorded the crucial victory after a disappointing start, losing 0-6 to Zambia on Saturday.  The squad now needs a win against South Africa’s Amajita who are yet to record a victory in the last match of the group billed for tomorrow. The squad now stands third in the four teams table with three points with Malawi second on goal difference and Zambia tops with six points after two matches. Only the top two from the group will sail through to the semi-finals. The Under-17 team came from behind to silence the hosts with the victory. The goals were scored by the duo of Colani Dvuba and Khayalethu Zitha in the second half of the games.

The game started with Malawi being favourite for a victory and they were attacking first goal with troublesome Noel Sakala long range shot from 30 yards saved Siyabonga Magagula for a corner with five minutes into the game. The game went off with scoring chances falling on Malawi but failing to utilize. The game went for the break goalless. In the hour mark, Malawi’s Noel Sakala gets on the score sheet as he takes the ball to his left with a dummy for a shot to beat his marker then curly it to the far post. Seven minutes later Malawian defense went to sleep and Colani Dvuba finds space for a shot outside the 18yard box to get the team back in the game. Five minutes later Bongani Mhlanga makes his presence known as he makes a run on the far side and deliver a cross into the Malawian box where Khayalethu Zitha heads it in for the lead.
