MBABANE – Moneni Pirates are winning on and off-the-field, so to speak.

Pirates replicas are selling like hot cakes as over 300 replicas were sold in a day. The stock of 500 replicas that went up for sale on Saturday and three quarter was selling at E700 and E950 each being sold on Saturday only during the 1-0 win over Green Mamba during the MTN Premier Legaue played at Mavuso Sports Centre. The E950 replica goes with an E10 000 worth of a funeral cover from Ekhaya Funeral and a membership card for the season. Majority of Pirates supporters were nicely dressed in the new Umbro kit when they celebrated the victory against the defending champions.

Head of Corporate Services Mhlonishwa Motsa confirmed yesterday that they have already sold three quarters of the stock. Through the sale of the replicas, the team have already pocketed an estimate over E350 000. “The response from our supporters when it comes to the sale of the replicas was marvelous. It shows that they wanted to wear the club’s colours and it is unfortunate that only few are left now and most were also pre-booked,” he said. Motsa said majority of the fans bought the replicas during the MTN Premier League match against defending champions, Green Mamba. Motsa said the positive result by the club was also a cherry on top. Motsa encouraged their supporters to continue buying the remaining kit. He said they will make arrangement to bring in more replicas if the interest is still there from the fans. He said majority of the fans fancied the alternative kit.

Since the beginning of the season, Pirates have been drawing a large number of crowds in their games. Over 300 travelled to King Sobhuza II memorial Stadium when the play Mbabane Swallows a fortnight ago while about 1 000 made it to their last game at Mavuso Sports Ground on Saturday. “We are happy that our numbers are improving at the stadium. We urge our fans to continue with this good spirit,” he said. Pirates are fourth in the MTN Premier League, six points away from leaders, Mbabane Swallows having played eight games. Their next fixture in the MTN Premier League is against Mhlume Peacemakers.
