E350 000 IS THE PRIZE!
MBABANE – It’s very tight at the top of the MTN Premier League table standings as five games remain before the first round curtain falls.
We are talking and definitely, the fans are doing same about who will finish at the top when the first round ends.
Currently, there are only three places one can look at – and that is the league’s current top three. Interesting enough is that they meet in head-to-head clashes as of next Wednesday until Sunday. Let’s get into these fixtures and see who stands a better chance of netting the E350 000 grand prize for the first round winners.
The Top Three
Next Wednesday –
Royal Leopard vs. Young Buffaloes
It will be a security forces derby, a pending match between Royal Leopard and Young Buffaloes. What a game! These are two clubs that have a good chance of the prize at stake despite being behind leaders Mbabane Swallows. Buffaloes are two games behind and Leopard one behind while on the table the former is second and the latter third but level on 18 points, two behind Swallows.
This is a crucial tie, the first of two fixtures with a huge potential to decide the first round winners. A draw will not augur well for Leopard while another defeat for the police team could just rule them out. Buffaloes are yet to lose a match out of six and for them, a defeat will not be good as there is no telling what they will get against Swallows even though they will still be a game short and Swallows still have their own derby rivals Mbabane Highlanders to play.
Next Sunday – Young Buffaloes vs. Mbabane Swallows
The other potentially decisive match is this one. Swallows cannot afford to slip up. They cannot afford to lose a point out of this one but must win it to stay ahead and go on to win their last four games of the round. It always has been a high-tension filled match between two but one can hope this time football will be the winner – no fighting between players and officials is expected but good clean football so we have deserving first round champions.
Buffaloes are from the CAF Confederation Cup where they failed in the first round but have been unbeatable since losing to Bidvest Wits in an away leg and will look to keep things that way against Leopard and Swallows who stand to be haunted by last week’s second draw of the season against Milling Hot Spurs, come end of the first round.
The players to watch:
Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze (left-footed winger and captain - four goals in eight games)
Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze (attacking midfielder – seven goals in six matches)
Fanelo Tsabedze (midfielder – one goal in seven games)
The E350 000 verdict:
Young Buffaloes are favourites to win it.
