PIRATES WANT ‘BIG TEAM STATUS’ BACK
MBABANE – Moneni Pirates believe that they could regain their ‘big team’ status in the country again.
The team’s captain, Menzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane who is the longest serving player, said they were now a team with a strong vision and all stakeholders were working towards achieving and regaining the status of being counted among the big clubs in the country.
Currently, the big club status is with Manzini Wanderers, Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows.
Pirates are fourth in the MTN Premier League under coach Gcina ‘Magiyane’ Dlamini.
Simelane said that was a good sign that something positive in the club was happening and they were looking forward to doing better.
He said results would do the talking. Pirates were among the big clubs some years ago before they failed to stamp their authority in the elite league.
“There are lots of things that have changed in the team this season and we are happy as players. At first, our target was to at least finish in the top six but with our coach, who likes winning, we are going to fight for the top four this season. That will be good for the team as it has been a while since we competed for honours and it is time to do that now as we try to get the status that we deserve of being among the big teams in the country,” he said.
Simelane said the change of structure within the team was also a positive move.
followers
Pirates have been able to sell about 500 replicas, which was a good sign that they have a lot of followers in the country. The replicas are selling at E700 and E950.
Pirates are expected to continue with their good run when they meet Mhlume Peacemakers on Saturday in week nine of the MTN Premier League at Mavuso Sports Centre, kick-off 4:05pm.
They will also welcome back their coach, ‘Magiyane’, who missed their last two matches against Mbabane Swallows and Green Mamba. Dlamini was away in Blantyre, Malawi with the national team, Under-17 squad for the COSAFA Under-17 Men’s Championships.
