E100 000 TO HOST COSATAS
MBABANE – About 200 taekwondo artists will invade the country for the Confederation of Southern African Taekwondo Associations (COSATA) Championships.
The artists will come from over nine countries in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) including South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Tanzania, Namibia, Angola, Malawi and Zimbabwe among others.
Eswatini Taekwondo Federation (ETF) Vice Chairman and the Organiser of the COSATA championships Sizwe Mabuza said the event would be held on December 7, 2019 at the Mavuso Sports Centre.
He said preparations for the event had already started and they hoped to host a successful tournament. The championships are held rotationally among the SADC countries.
“We drafted a budget of about E100 000 and we hope that we will be able to raise those funds to host a successful event. These are among the biggest tournaments in the continent as they come before the Africa Championships. It is also where as a country we have to showcase our talent,” he said.
assistance
Mabuza said they would be hosting the event with the assistance of the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) and the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA).
“We are just pleading with companies that can assist us while we prepare to host the champions to contact us and we will greatly appreciate any kind of help. They can help by assisting our national team as it needs to go to camp and also be in uniform. We will also appreciate assistance in the form of hosting our visitors,” he said.
Mabuza said last year, the country did well in the last edition held in Gaborone, Botswana where they brought back home 12 medals, including three gold medals.
He said this time around, they would focus on the juniors including cadets, especially the group that represented the country in the world junior championships.
