LEOPARD HUNT TOP SPOT
MBABANE – Royal Leopard seek to reclaim the top spot at the expense of unpredictable side Tambuti.
A win for the police outfit will ensure they secure the top spot of the MTN Premier League log with 22 points.
Edwin Matsebula’s troops visit sugar-belt outfit Tambuti this afternoon at Mayaluka Stadium in Big bend.
If they are to stand a chance to contest for the E350 000 first round incentive, this match is a must win for ‘Ingwe Mabalabala’.
Leopard will then pray for a draw between current table-toppers Mbabane Swallows and second-placed Young Buffaloes tomorrow at Somhlolo National Stadium to remain at the top of the table.
Points
The red and white glamour side have accumulated 20 points so far with eight games played while Buffaloes and Leopard have 19 with seven and eight matches, played, respectively.
They face a Tambuti outfit that have proven invincible at home in previous meetings. In the six meetings, Leopard and Tambuti had an equal share of wins but the latter won twice at home.
In the 2018/19 season, Tambuti stunned Leopard 1-0, courtesy of a Mpendulo Ngidi strike only two minutes before time.
Leopard won the return leg 3-0 on March 30, 2019 and recorded back-to-back wins in the 2017/18 MTN Premier League season.
They first beat Tambuti 5-1 away before completing the double in the return leg winning 3-1.
Run
However, the Lubombo-based ensemble have not really had a good run since the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign.
They have also played eight games winning only two, playing four draws and losing the rest.
On paper, the police outfit are the favourites to win but upsets are usually brought by the so called smaller teams which make the league even more exciting.
