LOBAMBA – Young Buffaloes are a force to be reckoned with.

They once again proved their superiority and class when they thrashed table toppers Mbabane Swallows 3-1 to dislodge them from the summit of the elite league log yesterday.
This was during their 2019/20 MTN Premier League first round match. The army outfit are now at the top with 22 points while the red and white glamour side have been de-escalated to the second spot with 20 points after nine games played. Buffaloes are enjoying a great run in the league as they are on top with a game in hand following their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The win for Buffaloes also broke their nine-game winless record against the capital outfit in the league as they last beat Swallows in the in 2014. Buffaloes only managed a 2-0 win in the Ingwenyama Cup semi-finals early this year. Coming back to yesterday’s game, Buffaloes executed their game plan well as Dominic Kunene’s men sat back to allow Swallows to attack in the first half but successfully absorbed the pressure. They started attacking in the second half where they scored all their three goals. The first one came through the boot of man-of-the-match Wandile ‘Skosh’ Shabangu four minutes before the hour-mark. It was a great strike from a Fanelo ‘Order’ Mamba great control before a super delivery on the right channel for ‘Skosh’ to outpace two defenders and beat Sandanezwe Mathabela hands down.

Buffaloes added numbers forward in the second half as they started attacking more with coach Kunene taking out Ndoda Mthethwa for Phiwa Dlamini. This technical change paid-off for the army side as the substitute handed his team a second goal. Phiwa scored on a one-on-one encounter with Birds’ Mathabela after being set up by the first goal scorer in ‘Skosh’.
Honour Janza’s troops were dealt a huge blow when referee Mbongeni Shongwe had to give defender Kingu Pemba a red card for a second bookable offence on Phiwa, who was then stretchered off the field after being injured. Ali Matse stood up to the challenge to take the set piece at the edge of the box and he beautifully converted at the top corner in the 81st minute to make it 3-0 celebrating with teammates next to Swallows’ supporters who were quite silent at that moment.
