ESRC’S 5 KEY PLAN
MBABANE – If their outlined development projects materialise, they will have achieved their mission and vision.
That is the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) which has five main key development programmes. They are aligned to the government parastatal’s mission and vision.
The mission of the organisation is ‘to develop and regulate all sport and recreation activities in the kingdom through quality sport and recreation programmes and facilitating maximum access to resources and opportunities for Eswatini citizens’. Their vision is to have ‘a well-regulated and coordinated sport industry that promotes a healthy, passionate, proud and winning nation in sport and recreation.”
The five main programmes of the government entity include Shukuma Swaziland, Disability Sport, Gender Equity, the Sport Education and Accreditation System (SEAS) and the Podium Performance Programme (PPP).
ESRC Media Officer Dumisani Ntiwane confirmed the programmes of the organisation. He said Shukuma Swaziland was a flagship mass participation programme primarily advocating and promoting participation in sport and physical activity by all emaSwati for health benefits and other intrinsic benefits.

“The disability sport programme is a repertoire of activities designed for people living with a disability. The programme primarily seeks to create opportunities that will increase the participation and involvement of people living with a disability in sport and physical activity,” he said.
Ntiwane then explained the third programme, gender equity, which he disclosed was a programme that sought to foster operations that equitably allocate resources, programmes and decision-making opportunities across all gender groups.
The fourth programme is the SEAS which seeks to establish a national framework with common reference points and levels of competency for training and accreditation of all sports practitioners in Eswatini, aligned to the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Framework.
The final programme is the PPP which is a high performance Programme of the ESRC in collaboration with EOCGA. It seeks to create an environment and programmes that will enhance high level performance by emaSwati athletes.
The ESRC will host the Eswatini National Sports Awards at the end of the year which are an ultimate reward programme of sport in Eswatini. The awards seek to recognise and motivate excellence in sport participation by all sport practitioners.
