MEHLULI HANDS WANDERERS BACK TO DIRECTORS
MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers’ Director Mehluli Nhlengetfwa has left.
The South Africa-based businessman is said to have handed back the team to former Directors in Sandile ‘Chief’ Dlamini and Peter Mathaba. The two held the reins before Nhlengetfwa took over together with the late reverend Percy Mngomezulu. According to sources close to the team, Nhlengetfwa found it improper to continue as director for a team that was registered as other people’s company. It has also been gathered that internal conflicts were another factor that prompted his departure from the maroon and white outfit. Drawn for comment, Nhlengetfwa said he was occupied with work and asked to respond later through the WhatsApp platform as he said it would be more convenient to address the issue. He had not responded by the time of going to print despite two blue ticks on his WhatsApp indicating that he had opened the message.
Nhlengetfwa had been asked to clear his current position with the team following reports that he had handed back the team to the former directors. Meanwhile, former Director ‘Chief’ was also drawn for comment and asked not to comment on the matter as he said he had just returned from South Africa. “I kindly request not to comment in this issue, I have just returned to the country from South Africa and I am not aware of any new developments,” said Dlamini. The team’s Management Committee (MC) Chairman in lawyer, Bongani ‘Bhanyaza’ Mdluli, was also drawn for comment.
The chairman also asked not to comment, at least not before Nhlengetfwa has given his comment in relation to this matter. The last attempt to call Nhlengetfwa was made at 8:03pm.
Meanwhile, the businessman shot to fame when he ran the Manzini Wanderers Ladies team before taking over as the sole director of the ‘Weslians’. His appointment to this position was facilitated by a task team led by former sole Director Sikebhe Dlamini. Nhlengetfwa ‘s appointment as the team’s director was confirmed last year by the then National Supporters Committee (NSC) led by the vocal Majay’vane Dlamini, which had then been calling for the former directors to step down. The NSC, together with a number of supporters, advocated for the businessman to take over as the team director as they felt he was fit to run the team due to his financial muscle.
