MBABANE – Taekwondo artist Wandile Maziya is rubbing shoulders with the best in the world as he is attending a two-week training camp in Seoul, South Korea.

Maziya, who is a Third Dan Black Belt, left the country last Monday and he is expected back home next week after spending two weeks in preparations of the 2020 Olympics Games Qualifiers. Maziya met his idol in Lee Dae Hoon, who is ranked first in the world in taekwondo.

Ranked

Hoon is ranked first in both world and the Olympics rankings with -63 and -68 respectively. Maziya is among the artists who are part of the 2019 ‘Booyoung Dream Programme’ that started from November 22 and it will end December 3 in Muju, Korea. The programme, sponsored by Booyoung, offers athletes suffering from limited financial means the opportunity to come to Korea for best-of-breed Olympic preparation training.

This year’s athletes hail from 18 countries. The programme aims at assisting the artists ahead of their respective continental qualification tournaments.
Their programme takes place at the World Taekwondo Central Training Center, Muju Taekwondo won in cooperation with Taekwondo Promotion Foundation. Athletes on the programme visited the WT Headquarters in Seoul on Monday.

World Taekwondo Peace Corps Foundation Secretary General Hyunsuk Shin also joined to encourage all athletes.

Success

World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue wished the artists great success.
“It was a huge pleasure to meet these fine athletes in the midst of their Olympic preparations and I hope all of you achieve your dream. I am grateful to our global partner, Booyoung, for offering them this precious opportunity,” he said.

Maziya is expected to take center stage during the (Confederation of Southern African Taekwondo Associations) COSATA Championships to be held in the country on December 7, where over seven countries from the Southern Development Community (SADC) will be attending for competitions.
Eswatini Taekwondo Federation (ETF) Secretary Mbongeni ‘Ndo’ Sibandze confirmed that all was well for Maziya in South Korea and he will be back home on December 4 after the camp.
