SWIMMER HAYLEY SHINES IN SA

MBABANE – It rained gold for nine-year-old swimmer Hayley Hoy in the Mpumalanga Championships held for three days in Nelspruit, South Africa.


She had bagged five gold medals by end of business on Saturday while she won two on the opening day of the championships on Friday. Hoy was the defending champion of the best visiting female swimmer accolade and by the look of things, she was on her way of defending the tittle by yesterday morning.
The Swim Lab swimmer is among the rising stars in the country in swimming, having already broken some national records last season. Swim Lab have 15 swimmers who are all competing in the championships.


Swim Lab coach Welcome Nhlabatsi confirmed the results yesterday. He said the team was due to compete in the last event yesterday before coming home.

Others who made stops on the podium were Damien De Sousa, Kyla Webb, Raya Young and elite swimmer Simanga Dlamini.
Dlamini is currently from a two-week attachment at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Pretoria, South Africa. He is part of the athletes who are preparing to represent the country in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games.

“Our swimmers are raising the country’s flag high and they’re doing well. We are happy that already in day two, we have won all kinds of medals, including gold, silver and bronze. We are hopeful that we are coming home with our heads high,” he said.


Missing out in the championships was Luca Fraser, who was the best visiting male swimmer last time out. He could not make it due to other commitments.
Swim Lab has been one of the dominant teams in swimming since its establishment and on Thursday, they were presented with a sponsorship by VIVA Beverages.
