LOBAMBA – Like Santa Claus in a sheer Christmas mood, Young Buffaloes Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze’s four goal haul here yesterday sent the army side to the top of the MTN Premier League.

On a penultimate week, Buffaloes sent a clear statement of intent to run away with the E350 000 first round incentive by bashing relegation threatened Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows 5-0 in a one-sided match and dislodging Mbabane Swallows at the summit of the log standings.

Undisputed

Saviola, who was an undisputed man of the match, scored the fastest hat-trick in the league as he scored three goals in less than 20 minutes before adding one in the second half to take his tally to 15 goals.

This was a replayed match abandoned a fortnight ago due to the water-logged King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium artificial turf. The game was called off with Buffaloes leading 1-0 with only 15 minutes remaining before full time.

Buffaloes now stand at the summit of the table of the table on goal advantage against Mbabane Swallows who are second with both teams having 29 points.
The 30-year-old Saviola deserved all the accolades as it took him only three minutes to find the back of the net. He was let to control the ball inside the 18 area before unleashing a ground shot that easily beat Black Swallows goalkeeper Mayibongwe Simelane.

Hat-trick

Buffaloes were in full control of the game from the start and it came as no surprise when he added his second in the 17th minute and he was back a minute later to finish off his first half hat-trick. Black Swallows could have scored through Jonathan Bafoe but he failed to beat Nhlanhla Gwebu face to face with only five minutes before the breather.

Three minutes into the second half, Saviola forced a brilliant save from Simelane and he was a menace until his long-range shot from outside the 18 area landed at the top corner, easily beating Simelane and marking his fourth goal of the day.
