MBABANE – Outgoing Sihlangu assistant coach Velekhaya Mthethwa is in full support of the new technical team led by Dominic Kunene.

Mthethwa served under Serbia-born strategist Kostadin Papic, who the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) did not renew his one-year contract which came to an end on December 31, 2019.

The former South African heavyweights Orlando Pirates coach had a rather disastrous spell, with the nation’s pride failing to win a single official game in open play. Papic led the national team on 13 official games.

Meanwhile, the Serbian’s assistant believes the newly-appointed technical team led by Young Buffaloes and Under-20s national team coach, Dominic Kunene is capable of bringing results for the senior team.

This follows the announcement by the EFA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Frederick Mngomezulu, this past Saturday at Somhlolo National Stadium after the Ingwenyama Cup quarter-final games, that Kunene was the head coach and would be assisted by Moneni Pirates gaffer Gcina ‘Magiyane’ Dlamini, who is also the national team Under-17s head coach.

“I wish them luck and they should know that we are fully behind them. They are qualified and trained coaches who are capable of doing the job,” said Mthethwa.
This is after he had been asked if he thought the technical team was a good choice for the nation’s pride in his expert opinion as a coach.
Mthethwa did not want to divulge much on whether the new technical team would surpass the previous one under which he served but maintained that their understanding of the game of football was different as coaches.

On another note, Mthethwa was appointed as Papic’s assistant while heading the national Under-17s.
Asked on his future football career plans, the coach said he was on break and no offers had come through as yet.
