MBABANE – Defender Lindo Mkhonta, is behind Young Buffaloes incredible run in the MTN Premier League as they lead by six clear points.

This was proven when the player was named the best player for the month of December, taking home the E6 000 prize money. Mkhonta is the second player from Young Buffaloes to win the award after Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze in October. Mkhonta said they were feeling good as a team and he won the award through the support from all stakeholders. He said he believed that he deserved the award having contributed some number of assists in their goals, especially last month.

“Thanks to my teammates as we are doing this together. We are working hard at training and during games to make sure that we keep on winning as there is still a long way to go. Thanks to the sponsor, MTN, for the incentive as it turns to motivate us and keep us working hard,” he said.

Mkhonta admitted that the departure of their Coach Dominic Kunene who was appointed the national team coach is going to disturb them a little bit in their campaign of winning the league. He said they were sharing the same goals with Kunene but that will come to an end. He said they would have to continue working hard as life goes on.

MTN National First Division log leaders Tambankulu Callies midfielder Colani Mamba was the best player for the month of December. He was handed over the E2 000 cheque yesterday. Mamba said he was delighted with the award and it would  help him work hard.

Challenging

“Thanks to my team as this has been the most challenging year as we are doing all our best to get promoted to the elite league. Last year we were fighting relegation and this season we have to change and try to get promotion. We are confident that we will achieve our goal at the end of the season as we are working hard to make sure that we win every game,” he said.

Presenting the winners yesterday was MTN Eswatini Senior Manager Consumer Marketing Meshack Maseko with Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati.
