MBABANE – Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows Football Club Chairman Charles Matsebula claims to have spent about E0.5 million to run the club.

This is according to his replying affidavit which he has filed at the High Court of Eswatini.  Matsebula alleged in his papers that he spent a sum of about E500 000 on assembling the current squad that got promoted to the elite league end of last season.

“It has cost me over E500 000 to assemble and secure the high quality of players and technical staff to push the team to qualify to the highest level in the country in its 63 years since it was established.

“We have secured a multi-million Umbro deal which comes with special and customized kits and replicas. The replica jerseys are sold at E600 each. With this deal, the club is starting to generate money to be able to sustain itself instead of relying on sponsors as we will be selling its merchandise designed and manufactured by Umbro,” reads part of the papers.

dispossessed

He further said: “I insist that I was dispossessed of all the items listed in the notice of motion which were bought by me when the 2018/2019 season began.
“On August 19, 2019, a day after our first match of the campaign, I personally gave money to the club manager, Basta  Vilakati and sent him to go and buy the things because players needed beds to sleep on.

“He asked me what to write on the receipts and I told him to write Black Swallows because I did not think it was a problem,’’ continues the papers.
The veracity of these allegations is still to be tested in court.

Matsebula was replying to the answering affidavit that was filed by the Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows Chairman of Elders, Sipho Kwena Shongwe, opposing the recent urgent application filed by the former. In his founding affidavit, Matsebula wants the court to issue an order interdicting the elders from interfering in the running of the team.

Matsebula is the first applicant in the matter. The club is the second applicant. The matter is heard by Judge Nkululeko Hlophe.
