6 GOLD MEDALS FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS ESWATINI TEAM
MBABANE – The Special Olympics Eswatini (SOE) team lived up to their promises. The six- member athletes had all promised to come back with medals when they left last Wednesday for Cairo, Egypt for the First Pan African Special Olympics Games.
The team which was headed by Edward Ndlangamandla comprised of Sambulo Xaba, Lindelwa Mngometulu, Mpilo Thwala, Fisokuhle Maseko, Sandiswa Shabangu and Neliswa Shabangu. All the athletes that participated in the games managed to come back with a medal. However, Lindelwa Mngometulu and Sambulo Xaba were exceptional as they scooped two gold medals each. The former won gold in 100m and long jump while the latter excelled in the 100m and 200m taking home two gold medals.

Also winning gold was Sandiswa Shabangu, who came first in the 100m. She also managed to win a bronze medal in the 25m. In total they won 10 medals which included 6 gold, 3 bronze and one silver medal.
Speaking from Cairo yesterday, the delegation leader Edward Ndlangamandla said the team did extremely well.
“We are proud of them. This was a commendable effort and we appreciate that they gave it their best,” Ndlangamandla said.
The delegation leader said that they would leave this evening for Eswatini.
“We are expected to arrive at OR Tambo International Airport at 7am on Friday(tomorrow).Then we will travel by road back home and hopeful before the afternoon we will be at the Ngwenya Border Gate,” he said.
Meanwhile Special Olympics Eswatini (SOE) president Louis Nxumalo commended the team for hoisting the country flag high. He also thanked Prince Bandzile, the chairman of Peaceful Warrior Foundation, who sponsored the whole trip. He applauded the parents for the support, Eswatini Sports and Recreational Council and Swaurora Organic Health Care Products for the support.
