MBABANE – He returned home victorious. That is sensational young rider Brendan van Kooten, who was in South Africa to take part in the opening phase of the SANESA Nationals this past weekend.

SANESA is the South African National Equestrian Schools Association National competition where excelling local junior riders represent the Mpumalanga Province. The 16-year old and his horse, Impi, otherwise known as Faith Final Impact, gave a splendid performance to come back home with silverware. The rider received the Mpumalanga SANESA 2020 High School Victor Ludorum Trophy. Equestrian Federation of Eswatini (EFE)’s Allison Melvin confirmed that Brendan and Impi won a trophy at the SANESA.

“Brendan and Impi (Faith Final Impact) had a good weekend moving up to Elementary Dressage and obtaining a respectable 66.33 per cent in their first competition at this level and finished second,” said Melvin.

It is only Brendan who represented Mpumalanga on behalf of the kingdom this time around,in the absence of the trio of Chloe Thorne, Coral Taman and Lia van Wyk, who also excelled and brought home silverware in last year’s edition.
Meanwhile, top junior rider Lia no longer qualifies for the SANESA Nationals following the fact that she is going to university yet these are schools competition.

She has enrolled with the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and will be taking her horse, Catch my Drift, with her to compete in competitions for the institution of higher learning, among other events.
