BALLERINAS EYE GOLD IN CROATIA

MBABANE - Ballet competitions can mean scholarships to prestigious schools, prize money or even job prospects.

A team of seven Eswatini junior ballet dancers will be competing in a classic ballet and contemporary dance showdown in Croatia on April 24 until 26, 2020. The event will be held at Zagreb Dance Center Copony. The deadline for applications is April 1, 2020. Artistic director Velile Dube said she hoped that they come back home with gold and more experience that would help develop ballet dance in Eswatini.

Competition

Like in other sports such as tennis, ballet dance is not just about the competition but also provides academic opportunities for scholarships and a future career.
Having started her dance school in July 2016 with only three dancers, Dube has grown her circle and now has 60 dancers ranging from beginners, intermediate and seniors. In March 2019, her team participated in the National Eisteddfod of South Africa but could not get gold.

“Last year in March, we competed in the Nationals in Johannesburg but could not bring home gold. My dancers are quite ambitious and passionate, which gives so much hope that we will bring home gold,” said Dube.

Ballet dance is a form of aerobic exercise that has physical, mental and emotional benefits. It is a great sport suitable for both children and adults.
