MBABANE – Another feather has been plucked from the ‘Birds’ nest. Former Mbabane Swallows Management Committee (MC) Chairman Mandla Dlamini has passed away. One of the club’s longest serving official, Dlamini passed away at his parental home at Mahlanya after a short illness.

The die-hard Swallows supporter who served under two club chairmen, both dearly departed, Bheki Simelane and Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze, never missed any of his beloved ‘Beautiful Birds’ matches.

Welcomed

He was also part of the team that welcomed current club president Archbishop Bheki Lukhele during his unveiling in a glittering ceremony held at Happy Valley Resort on August 22, 2019.
Dlamini’s demise was confirmed by club stalwart Robert Magongo on behalf of the Club’s Council of Elders.

“On behalf of the Council of Elders and the whole Mbabane Swallows family we would like to pay our heartfelt condolences to the Dlamini family on the sad passing away of our former chairman Mandla. We are deeply sad about his untimely demise,” Magongo said.
He described Dlamini as a very loyal Swallows person whose support for the club was unwavering.

“He was a die-hard Swallows person. It didn’t matter who was in charge of the club, he was always there in support and could not be bought or swayed away from the club. He always spoke his mind and when he served in the MC, in all the times he was called to serve, he always gave his best,” Magongo said.

He said due to the COVID-19 restrictions on the number of people who could attend a funeral and the family still to meet and decide on the date of burial, more details would  be released before the end of the week. “As a team we should unite and support the Dlamini family at this sad hour. Mandla served the club with distinction,” he added. Worth noting is that Dlamini was part of the team’s Elders’ structure before his sad passing.

Dlamini becomes the fourth high profile person from the Mbabane Swallows family to pass on after the demise of former eloquent club spokesperson Sibusiso Manana, Nqaba Dlamini and the most successful chairman in the 72-year history of the red and white outfit, Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze, who was gunned down on January 14, 2018 at exactly 6:53pm by a bumbling fool with no regard for life.
