In this week’s edition, we chat to the energetic Ingwenyama Cup’s PRO Lenhle ‘Makawosi’ Masuku.
He opens up about  his interest of becoming a traditionalist, and his take on the coronavirus pandemic. He also reveals the three things he cannot live without. Read on to find out more about the charismatic ‘Makawosi’...

SANELE JELE (SJ): Who is Lenhle Masuku?
LENHLE MASUKU (LM): I am a young man from Mbukwane in the Shiselweni region, a stone’s throw from Mahamba Border Post. I am a proud liSwati, father of two boys Pupu and Wawa, a football supporter and a God-fearing man. I guess some day in the future I will be called a traditionalist. I’m a good friend to those people I’ve met over the years I’ve walked on this earth. Put me in a 100 000 packed stadium, theatre or even just an open area with thousands of people I will be friends with three quarter of them within the first hour and will be laughing with all of them!!! That’s just the easy going person I was blessed to be.

SJ: How did you become PRO of Ingwenyama Cup ?
LM: This is a royal assignment from the Patron of the tournament His Majesty King Mswati III.

SJ: Tell us what the responsibilities of an Ingwenyama Cup PRO entail?
LM: As PRO, I am expected to share and communicate information about the tournament with the public, within the country and beyond the borders of this country. As you know, this is one big tournament that has attracted interest even with people in the region (SADC), the continent and abroad so I’ve got to be available to talk to them about every detail on this great tournament. I’m the brand ambassador of this tournament which I’m expected to wear and represent 24/7.

SJ: Your take and message regarding the covid-19 pandemic, some say it’s the end of times...
LM:  End of times for what? All we want is the end of the lockdown. Well, covid-19 is a pandemic that has left the whole world in crisis as a result. A lot has been said about it but from me, I guess it’s one and the same but very important message to everyone. This virus is real and dangerous. We have to be very cautious and careful how we handle ourselves. Ingwenyama, through the government, has given us the direction to take.
The World Health Organisation and the Ministry of Health are working tirelessly in making sure the messages are put across and understood so the onus is on us now to act accordingly.
Let us protect ourselves and those we love by taking and following all the necessary precautions given. The main measures that must be undertaken by all include staying at home, keeping our hands off and away from certain surfaces, wash hands as frequently as we possibly can with clean running water and soap and obviously using sanitisers.

SJ: Now, let’s take it easy...your favourite holiday destination?
LM:  For now my favourite destination is Phuket Isla, Thailand but my next vacation will be Greece.

SJ: Three things you cannot live without?
LM: Three mmmh.... My children(Pupu and Wawa), music and my passport.

SJ: How did you get the name Makawosi?
LM:  Makawosi is my name for kubutseka (traditional initiation). It was given by Inkhanyeti regiment eNgabezweni when I was initiated some years back.
SJ: What kind of music does Lenhle listen to and your three favourite songs currently?
LM:  These days, I am playing Toni Braxton’s new single ‘Do it’, Sands & Tsepho Tshola ‘Ngiyathandaza’

SJ: Any special quote that guides you in life?
LM:   “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed because his compassions fail not.”

SJ: What car are you driving and what is your dream car?
LM:  I drive a BMW 318 MSport and as for dream car...well I love BMW. So your answer is right there.

SJ:What book are you reading now?
LM:  13 things mentally strong people don’t do.

SJ:Your favourite dish?
LM: I love Chinese food

SJ: Teams that you support in Eswatini, South Africa, England, Spain, France?
LM:  Here in the Kingdom I am a  Sihlangu supporter but in South Africa, I’m a Buccaneer for Life (Orlando Pirates) while in England I support Arsenal. I love Barcelona in Spain but in France, I don’t have a specific favourite team but PSG have made me to sit up and notice.

SJ:Your parting shot…
LM: Thank you Mr Jele, my message to the young ones out there involves three things which is God, education and respect, which remain the key pillars of becoming a better person.
