EZULWINI - He missed participating in the last national elections due to the fact that his team Mbabane Swallows was busy with CAF Champions League games.

CAF is an acronym for Confederation of African Football whereby Swallows remain highly rated more than a couple of years later since their group stage finish. Veteran winger Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko was part of the history. He had to miss the nominations when he his community had already expected him to join the Parliamentary election race.

However, like every Swallows’ player eligible to cast his vote, he was able to vote too. Speaking to the player this past Thursday, he declared that he still has interest in politics after football.

“I do have interest in politics. In fact, that is one target that is in my pipeline to represent my community and give back the best way I can,” he responded when questioned on his missed chance and if he was still up to it given that his football days are nearly coming to an end. In fact, the winger has defied all odds to continue playing elite football and is now 40 years old.

This has made him the only local star to reach this milestone in elite soccer. Interesting enough is that he is not yet talking retirement. Instead, he has given the impression that he still has the legs and energy to go on playing. However, his interest for politics could come in as the decisive factor for the Gege-born soccer star who has had spells in South African football and featured for three teams in Eswatini.

He played for Denver Sundowns and Malanti Chiefs upon his return from South Africa before joining ‘Umkhonto KaShaka’ as Swallows are fondly known by their hordes of followers. The former national team Sihlangu star has gone on to win several back-to-back titles with the red and white capital city giants.
