MBABANE – Action speaks louder than words! For Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, this common adage holds true.
The Mbabane East Member of Parliament (MP) has not just encouraged emaSwati to stay home and exercise to keep fit and healthy, but he is practising what he preaches.

The country is currently under partial lockdown due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 (coronavirus).
Gatherings of more than 20 people have been banned by the Eswatini Government and this has led to the shutdown of gyms and training facilities.
However, this is not an excuse for people not to keep training as indoor or home training is very much recommended.

“As we continue to observe all the health advice given by the Ministry of Health and World Health Organisation and follow government’s partial lockdown guidelines, including staying at home, it is important that we also stay fit and healthy,” said Bulunga.

The minister added that as a ministry, they had the programme Shukuma Eswatini promoting healthy living among citizens through sport and physical activity.
“While we cannot shukuma together as we usually do, we still encourage emaSwati to shukuma at home,” he said.
The MP also disclosed that staying fit and healthy did not require one to have state of the art gym equipment.

“We can still maintain our fitness with relatively basic tools and a dedication to the cause. We can still workout from home by doing exercises like push-ups, sit-ups, lunges, squats and crunches among others. I call upon all able emaSwati to join me as we shukuma at home during this COVID-19 partial lockdown,” urged the minister.

Most importantly, Bulunga advised the nation to remember to wash their hands with soap and running water once they had finished their workout and as regularly as they could after that.
