MBABANE – No situation is permanent in life, good or bad. This old adage holds true for Moneni Pirates’ players, who were understandably smiling from ear to ear on Tuesday after they were paid their pending March salaries in full by management despite the fast-spreading COVID-19 pandemic that has stalled all football activities in the world, leaving the world economy in tatters.

emotions

After hogging media headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent days, the Manzini giants managed to raise the reported E70 000 to E80 000 wage bill to play their players, something that has helped calm the emotions. This was after the players delegated their captain, Menzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane, to inquire from management about the delay of their March salaries.

The players were assured that the team was still making frantic efforts to sort out the issue and indeed, they were given their money on Tuesday.

contributed

The good news was confirmed by Pirates’ spokesperson Mlungisi ‘Puma’ Simelane, who thanked all those who financially contributed to the cause.
“It is true, our players were paid their salaries yesterday (Tuesday) and I can safely say that things are back to normal now. I cannot really say who contributed how much but the important thing now is that the issue of players’ salaries has been sorted out and everybody is happy.

‘‘I can also confirm that their salaries were paid in full despite the coronavirus challenge faced by the entire world including football,” Simelane said.

raising

The PRO further thanked all those who worked hard behind the scenes to assist in raising the needed funds towards paying players’ salaries.
“We are one big family at Pirates and we really thank all those who worked hard behind the scenes to help us raise the money for the salaries. It was a collective effort from all those who love the team and we appreciate the assistance,” he said.
