MBABANE – Football administrators continue to lead by example in taking precautionary measures against COVID-19 and embracing home training.

Manzini Wanderers’ Management Committee (MC) Chairman Bongani ‘Bhanyaza’ Mdluli is among local football administrators who have committed to individual training and spreading the gospel to adhere to government and the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended prevention measures.

According to the chairman, the nation, sports persons in particular, should ensure to keep fit and healthy during the partial lockdown while at home.
As a former footballer himself, the hub giants’ boss said he was thrilled that all their players were committed to their individual training programme.

“After a daily morning jog, I then do a ball workout and stomach exercises. As a born soccer player and athlete, exercising to me has always been a lifestyle. I am glad all my players are on an individual training programme so as to keep fit and in shape,” said the chairman, who is also a lawyer.
Research shows that being sedentary is bad for one’s physical and mental health, so staying active during this difficult time is important.

Being physically active helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol and can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. It also helps maintain muscle mass and bone density, reducing the risk of developing sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass) and osteoporosis (loss of bone density).

Physical activity also helps to keep one’s immune system working effectively as it flushes bacteria from the lungs and airways, increases white blood cell circulation and raises body temperature, all of which help the body fight infection.

As well as the physical health benefits, keeping active is a great way to ward off some of the psychological issues associated with being cooped up for an extended time.
Being active helps lower stress hormones such as cortisol and promotes the release of feel-good hormones, such as endorphins.
