MBABANE – Life is not all rosy for Mbombela City Lads goalkeeper Banele Dlamini under the lockdown, as he has to report back to the team after every training session daily.

The former Manzini Wanderers shot-stopper said they were given a programme every day and they had to send a video clip back to the team after every training session. He said this was one plan that the team used to monitor the players on their training while under lockdown.

Mbombela City Lads play in the Mpumalanga Province ABC Motsepe League and Dlamini joined the club at the start of the season under coach, former ABSA Premiership League giants Orlando Pirates Captain, Benson Mhlongo.

“Usually they send the programme a day before and then you have to send the video after training. They give us one day to rest especially on Sundays but as a player I want to be on top of my game when we return, I almost train every day.

“I don’t want to lose my first choice status in the team when we get back to play,” he said.
Dlamini came back home before both South Africa and Eswatini Governments announced lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dlamini said before the suspension of football activities, they were enjoying a good run under Mhlongo and all was going well in the team. They had three games and drew two in their last five matches.

Process

“Mhlongo is implementing the Premier League style of play although it is a long process and we started the season not so well.
“All was going well before the world was hit by the coronavirus and positive results were coming in.
“I hope that we continue with the good run even after everything has gone back to normal,” he added.

Mbombela City Lads are 12th in the 16 team league on 24 points while leaders Mpumalanga United lead on 45 points.
