MBABANE – There is hope for sports. This comes after the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council’s (ESRC) request to all sporting codes to submit plans, ideas or recommendations on how sporting activities may resume at the soonest possible time under the COVID-19 environment.

Government will be interrogating the ESRC on the resumption of the sporting activities. ESRC Development Business Manager Zama Didritch Tsabedze said the recommendations may be submitted to him before May 18, 2020.

“National sports bodies are urged to heed the call for recommendations. Non-responsive national sports bodies shall not resume any of their activities until such time that they have submitted same. They have to further put in place precautionary measures to ensure the safety of participants and spectators where applicable,” he said.

suspended

ESRC first suspended all international assignment concerning sports including competitions, tournaments, courses and meetings at the start of the coronavirus spread early March.
A week later, all sporting activities were suspended or postponed as per the instruction from the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga.

This will give hope to some athletes as these are good signs that they will be back in action soon. The country has been on partial lockdown since March 27 and the government eased the lockdown last Friday with sporting activities remaining suspended.

compete

In the United Kingdom, some sporting codes will be allowed to compete under the coronavirus environment but there will be tough measures to be followed in terms of the COVID-19 regulations. Some of the sporting codes include golf and tennis.
