WANDERERS APPROACH ‘BULL’S ALLY FOR TAKEOVER

MBABANE – Desperate times call for desperate measurers! This common adage can best explain the situation at financial besieged Manzini Wanderers, who have done the unthinkable.

The hub giants have approached Mbabane Highlanders’ director in South African businessman and politician Chief Ally Kgomongwe for financial assistance and a possible take over as the team director.

Worth noting is that constitutionally, taking over as Wanderers’ director for Kgomongwe will not be possible as there is no way one person can run two or more teams playing in the same league. Kgomongwe would have to step down at Highlanders.
A letter from Wanderers directed to the capital giants Public Relations Officer (PRO) Paul ‘Magidza’ Masilela was circulating on various media platforms yesterday.

Tasked

The letter, signed by the chairman of the select committee, a certain Mr Fakudze,  requests the PRO to assist the committee meet with Kgomongwe as it states that they (select committee) were tasked with finding a suitable individual or consortium to take over the day-to-day running of the club (Wanderers) including financial and general administration.

“At Manzini Wanderers FC, we appreciate the work that Mr Ally Kgomongwe has done at Mbabane Highlanders, which has brought much improvement and excitement in the PLE.  We, however, realise that the continued financial problems faced by our club are letting down Mr Kgomongwe’s efforts to raise the bar, hence the need to urgently find a partner to steer the club in the right direction. It is a known fact that when Mbabane Highlanders and Manzini Wanderers come to the party, Eswatini football becomes exciting and the clubs realise financial gain and stability,” reads the letter in part.

The communiqué further states that Wanderers are confidentthat Kgomongwe is the right person to assist them in identifying the right candidate to take over the overall running and administration of the club.

“We therefore, would be happy to meet with Mr Kgomongwe to discuss possible ways in which he can assist us in getting a suitable stakeholder to run the club,” the letter reads.

It is further stated in the letter that finer details of the partnership or agreement are outlined in a draft agreement which will be shared during the proposed meeting with Kgomongwe.

Drawn for comment, Wanderers Management Committee (MC) Chairman Bongani ‘Bhanyaza’ Mdluli politely referred questions to the Chairman of the Council of Elders Joe Nkumane. However, Mdluli noted that constitutionally, it was impossible for one director to have two teams in the same league.

Confirmed

Nkumane was also drawn for comment and confirmed having approached Kgomongwe in their search for a potential sponsor or director.
“We have engaged the Highlanders director and he had not yet responded to our communication,” he said. Nkumane expressed his disappointment in publicising such matters as he said they were premature and inappropriate to publicise.

Masilela on the other hand, acknowledged receipt of the letter in question and said he was yet to send it to the director.
Kgomongwe was also drawn for comment and said it was not the first time Wanderers had written to them and he was recently informed by Highlanders’ Patrons that they had received a letter from the hub giants with similar contents as the one directed to the PRO.

The director added that he did hold talks on the subject with ‘Weslians’ former Director Sandile ‘Chief’ Dlamini, but was yet to learn of the contents of the letter.
