NICHOLAS MCLEOD LEAVES A MARK
MBABANE - His son’s support was behind his success.
That is the story of Ian McLeod, who was supported by his son ,15-year-old Nicholas, when he made history by being the first liSwati with Brett Foss to complete the Everesting challenge. McLeod and Foss rode 8 848m, equivalent to Mount Everest (The highest mountain in the world) on Saturday and Sunday. They were riding up and down the Waterford Hill, Mbabane.
Nicholas joined his father in the challenge and accompanied his father in the first and last day. On the final days he rode 12 hill repeats and also rode nine hill repeats on Saturday.
Support
Ian said he could not have done it without Nicholas’s support.
The organiser of the event Lesley Foss said they were happy with the support they got from the Waterford community and surroundings.
“This mammoth effort was done as a fundraiser for the Swaziland Animal Social Welfare (SAWS) to bring awareness to the good work done by the volunteers at SAWS for the benefit of the community in Eswatini.
When people lose their dogs and cats, SAWS is the first place they go to see if anyone has found and handed them in. Others go to SAWS when looking to provide a loving forever home by adopting a dog or cat. SAWS also offers boarding and grooming services and sells dog food.
Stray
They also receive stray and abused animals.
“If you would like to support SAWS, please donate by making an EFT payment to SAWS at Standard Bank, Mbabane Branch, Account Number 9110000789871, Reference: Everesting + your name,” she said.
