EZULWINI - South Africa’s renowned coach Kenny Ndlazi has joined the Eswatini football fraternity in mourning the death of Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati.

Shocked and sad at the news, Ndlazi, a former Denver Sundowns coach locally before he contributed his knowledge to other clubs like Malanti Malanti Chiefs and Manzini Wanderers, was still in disbelief as he sent his comment on WhatsApp.

Shocked

“I am shocked and very sad. Him and Dodge Mahlalela were very close to me. Those are coaches that welcomed me so well in Eswatini.

“Not only that but those were two of the best coaches that Eswatini has produced. A big loss to the whole Eswatini football family. It’s hard to believe Koki is gone,” Ndlazi wrote.

Ndlazi said it was a complete loss to local football and the Vilakati family.

“May God bless his soul. May he rest in peace. Let the hands of God touch and reach the family during this hard and trying time,” he added.

Treated

Vilakati passed on last Thursday night at the Lubombo Referral Hospital in Siteki while being treated for COVID-19. He had been admitted for 24 hours before succumbing to death.

Vilakati is the most successful local coach because he won nearly every trophy with the country’s big teams and even explored Africa in the inter-club tournaments, recently reaching the group stage in the CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Champions League respectively with Mbabane Swallows. His last job as a coach was with his childhood team, Mbabane Highlanders, which he led to the Ingwenyama Cup finals but finished as runners-up to Green Mamba after losing 2-0
