MBABANE – It was a police day indeed.

This is after two members of the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) emerged winners in the Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC) Monthly Mug. Sandile Chonco was the net winner, carding an impressive score of 69 to beat a field of 60 golfers. Siboniso Simelane, who is also a police officer won in the gross category after scoring 72. Interesting, is that the previous edition was dominated by the Mhlanga brothers. Thirteen-year-old Sinethemba Mhlanga was the winner while his brother was runner-up. However, the former was not playing this weekend as he was reported to be absent due to that he was focusing on his schoolwork.

The monthly tournament was played at Mbabane Golf Course on Saturday.

Sought for comment, Chonco said he was happy to win the tournament again.

“This is my fourth time winning the tournament. I won it twice in 2015 and once in 2017. This motivates me to keep playing the sport,” Chonco said.

Shining in the novelties was Phil Mnisi after winning the nearest pin 9/18 while Valentine Maziya took home the award for nearest pin 7/16 with Sifiso Vilane also taking home the nearest pin 8/17 award. Siboniso Simelane also shined in this category as he won the nearest pin 2/11. Shining in the ladies category was Futhi Dlamini after carding a score of 76 while Phumlile Zwane won the nearest pin 9/18 award. The results were released by Mbabane Golf Club Ladies Captain Fisiwe Vilane.
