LEIPZIG‘S DAYOT DITCHES GUINEA-BISSAU
MBABANE – The national team, Sihlangu, have missed a chance of playing against one of the current best defenders in the world, Dayot Upamecano.
The German’s Red Bull Leipzig central defender, after making his first senior appearance for France affectionately known as ‘Les Bleus’, is now no longer eligible to represent the country of his parents, Guinea-Bissau.
The centre-back was tipped to represent Guinea-Bissau at senior level and he ended the speculation of representing his parental country by playing for France last Saturday in the UEFA Nations League encounter against Sweden.

According to goal.com, this was a great lose for Guinea-Bissau in their campaign of reaching the Total African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Finals next year in Cameroon. Guinea Bissau which is in Group I where Sihlangu features with star studded Senegal and Congo.
“The centre-back was tipped to represent Guinea-Bissau at senior level. It was inevitable that Upamecano would represent France having already played for almost all the country’s junior teams. He was part of the under-16 team that finished third in the 2014 Aegean Cup and played every minute in France’s UEFA European U-17 Championship success a year later,” confirmed goal.com.
Currently the defender is wanted by Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham.

It is Manchester United who is in serious hot pursuit of the defender after he had a blistering time at Leipzig who finished in the top four again in the Bundesliga and were eliminated by Paris-Saint German in the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League semi-finals recently.
Guinea-Bissau will face the national team, Sihlangu, next year in the AFCON Qualifiers while they are set to face Senegal in November when the qualifiers resume after suspension due to COVID-19.
Sihlangu has faced some of the world’s best players including Liverpool’s duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane from Egypt and Senegal respectively recently.
In the past, the team have played against great players including Emmanuel Adebayor and Kelechi Iheanacho among others.
