Happyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy birthday to us... Happy birthday to the elusive Shwashwaza Sports Crew... Sangena Gazi singena with one of our favourite songs by DJ Tira featuring Joocy ‘Thank You Mr DJ’ and we could not have chosen any other song than this one Gazi to celebrate our 20th birthday. Phela we had a long debate kutsi which song best suits our 20 years milestone. Our naughty crew members threw many songs on the table because sesidze lesikhatsi. 20 years Gazi is a long time even by both the country’s official languages.

Remember

Kwafakwa bo-‘Sweety Lavo’ by Trompies, ‘Masimbela’ by TKzee, ‘Gibela phezukwendlu’ by Mdu Masilela, bo-‘Siyohamba ngo-7’ by Brenda Fassie nabo-‘Vulindlela’ by the same Mabree. Kwabuya bo-‘Phansi kwemthunzi welanga’ by Mzekezeke kwabuya bo-‘Remember when it rained’ by DJ Sbu nabo-‘Mdlwembe’ by Zola, bo-‘Mlilo’ we-Big Nuz, bo-‘Sting ray’ sayo i-Nuz nabo Mlilo wa-DJ Zinhle sagcine Gazi sesifike ngisho kule-Jerusalem yelidvumo lejaivelwa mhlaba wonkhe ngisho na-CR7 uyayati Gazi na-Beyonce Knowles (In our books, she is the most beautiful woman to ever walk on God’s green earth…ncesini ma-cherry etfu but we mean this). When we were about to give lo-Jerusalem the honour yekutsi singene ngayo today as we celebrated our 20th anniversary itolo (as our picture shows here today) one naughty crew member lohlala asema-tavern nje told us a story of how one sibali wakhe wangala-Mozari left them in stitches inside the tavern the other day kukhala lengoma ya-Master KG and Nomcebo. Apparently the sound system went off in the middle of the song wevakala sibali sekatsi: “Jerumasela ikhanda lami limongoloze”...kliklikliklikliklikli...

Gazi as a result ke it was resolved kutsi asiyibeke eceleni and moreso because seyisuke ifana ne-chappies baze bayente nabo-dancing challenge. Tsine nanyalo we still believe the song lesajuba ngayo umnyaka leka-Make Uyangichaza, lo-mlilo wa DJ Zinhle should have been the song of the year.

The song ke lesiyikhetsile leya Malume uyalumana sisho yena DJ Tira letsi ‘Thank You Mr DJ’ also speaks to our WHY as a Sports Crew.

criticised

We want to thank you all for the support over the last 20 years. You have criticised us; some of you have threatened us with violence for sharing your dirty secrets here in this hallowed page, others have insulted some of the sports reporters aka-Times because bacabanga kutsi ngibo laba lababhala le-Shwashwaza.

Others have even gone to the extent of boldly telling everyone who cares to listen kutsi bayati kutsi ibhalwa ngubani and good gracious us, baze batsi ibhalwa ngisho ngumhleli waka-sports kuleliphephandzaba, sisho Umlangeni (of course he always laughs it off wa-Nkhosi; he has a big heart and a big stomach, might we add). But ke today we want to assure you kutsi nobody will ever meet the Shwashwaza Sports Crew. Ifana na-Mzekezeke nje. kungaba nguwe nawe.

The juicy stories we get from different people, from all walks of life. Others are soccer fans, players, officials, priests, bar men, soccer babes, petrol attendants, CEOs, COOs, shop managers and generally lonkhe luhlobo lwemuntfu contribute every week in terms of the juicy stories. That’s why we always say we have sources even ngaphansi kwelwandle nalekubo-Iraq. We are proud to announce that we are officially the longest standing column in the whole of Eswatini media space. Not even one column comes close to us. We have seen gossip columns come and go, we have seen other people taking over ema-columns ebantfu but here we are, 20 years later, we are still standing. For 20 years we have kept abreast with all the juicy stories you have not read in any of the mainstream media. We have done this while maintaining our high ethical standards.

As a result we have no litigation against this column and we plan to keep it that way. We have always maintained that this column knows neither Gentile nor Jew. Ayikhetsi libala lamuntfu.

We appreciate the positive and negative feedback we have received over the years because we have learnt to take the bitter with the sweet.

Today as we mark 20 years we want to pay tribute to the co-founders of this column, the dearly departed Mbongiseni ‘Gazo’ Nhleko and Lwazi ‘Giggs’ Dlamini, who jointly penned the first column – 20 years ago. We will always remember how passionate ‘Gazo’ was whenever he had to pen the column. He literally spent the whole day on a Friday, going through every sentence with military precision.

pen-pushers

‘Gazo’ you will always be in our hearts. We will not forget other contributors like Nathi Zubuko, Zweli Mabila, Thulani Thwala, Sandile Sima, Nosipho Mnguni (yes the current Assistant Police PRO)  to mention but a few of the pen-pushers who loved the column with purple passion.

We owe this to you gentlemen for keeping the fires burning during those halcyon days.

We also want to thank all the sports editors who found this column befitting to grace the Eswatini News sports pages over the last 20 years.

We pay tribute to Jerry Dube, Lwazi Dlamini, Dumsani Ntiwane, Bhekisisa Magongo, Ashmond Nzima and the incumbent Sabelo ‘Bhoza’ Ndzinisa. We say without you, this column would not have seen the light of the day.

We are chuffed with ourselves because through this column we have discouraged many people from engaging in illicit deals, ignoring their responsibilities and conducting themselves in a shabby manner. We are happy that, for 20 years, we have kept the fires burning.

We say here is to another 20 years, balling with the Shwashwaza Sports Crew. Thank you Mr DJ...er...THANK YOU SHWASHWAZA SPORTS CREW...WE LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK!!!
