MBABANE – The country has lost one of its sports loving people in Prime Minister (PM) Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini.

Dlamini’s demise shocked the world on Sunday and condolences started to pour in yesterday. The Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) said they were at a loss for words and they had been deeply left hurt.

ESRC Media Officer Dumisani Ntiwane extended their heartfelt condolences to their Majesties, the Deputy Prime Minister, His Majesty’s government, his wife, children friends, relatives and the entire Eswatini Nation for the untimely and shattering loss of the kingdom’s PM.

“We are at a loss for words. We have been left deeply hurt, confused and numb with shock following the prime minister’s passing.

“We were hopeful that the head of His Majesty’s Government would pull through and survive after it was confirmed that he had contracted COVID-19. Our hearts are aching and our minds are in a state of confusion and bewilderment.

“It has not been long since the prime minister lifted the ban on our mass participation flagship programme, Shukuma Eswatini, in the wake of the coronavirus.

“The programme, which has resumed, is now being delivered in a different format, thanks largely to Dlamini’s shrewd thinking, as he was eager to see emaSwati taking part in this important initiative in a very safe and nontoxic environment,” Ntiwane said.

Ntiwane said they would miss his definitive and firm nature as a leader.

Eswatini Football Association (EFA) shared almost the same sentiments.

Communications and Media Officer Muzi Radebe, said they learnt with shock of the infelicitous passing-on of PM.

“As a person who had football at heart, we were very honoured to have shared the same football spirit with him for many years; especially during the time when he was the Chief Executive Officer at Eswatini MTN and later as the Head of His Majesty’s Government, where he played a decisive role in the return of football business after the impulsive hiatus brought about by the COVID-19 health threat,” reads a statements.

The EFA statement quoted the Bible verse: Psalms 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”.

“Rest in Peace.”
