SPORTS WE MISSED IN 2020
MBABANE – What a year!
Yes, the phrase, ‘from the frying pan into the oven’ might soon come to life as the faceless monster, COVID-19, threatens to take a turn for the worst in what appears to be the second wave of this contagion.
As we look forward to wrapping up this catastrophic year in history, it would be safe to brace ourselves for the worst and sought means to fight this pandemic. We all wish to talk about it in the past tense but reality has it that we are not out of the woods yet.
Neighbouring South Africa is restlessly battling the COVID-19 second wave as cases top over one million and COVID-19 deaths in Eswatini have gone beyond 165 as per yesterday’s update, with more than 8 400 confirmed positive cases.
It’s a life or death situation and no one is safe. The sports fraternity, like the entire world, is continuing to lose its members to this pandemic, may their souls rest in peace.
Before the curtain falls on this calamitous year after tomorrow midnight, let us take a look at the sports activities that we missed as the government declared them high risk contact sports. Better safe than sorry.
