JOHN MENSAH UNREGISTERED AT ‘BULL’
MBABANE – His fate has been undecided despite signing a contract with the elite giants Mbabane Highlanders a couple of weeks ago.
That is former Matsapha United and Manzini Wanderers’ Ghanaian striker Johnson Mensah. It was reported he penned a season-long contract but remains an unregistered player.
This means Highlanders could still pay him for the duration of his contract but sign another player as he had arrived at the time the club had already agreed terms with Tokelo Rantie, the former England’s Bournemouth forward.
“We did not register Mensah but we’re looking at our options as we have some issues with some of the players and we are also signing Sikhwama,” confirmed the club’s boss Chief Ally Kgomongwe.
He explained that Mensah was their player but unregistered as yet even though there was one space before they sealed the foreign stars’ signing as the quota is five per team locally.
It is understood that Kgomongwe was strongly monitoring the conduct and attitude of Thamsanqa Sangweni, the former Orlando Pirates midfielder alongside striker Mandisa Gadla.
Chance
Mensah had been part of Highlanders since he moved from Wanderers ahead of the new season kickoff. He also affirmed signing a contract with the black and white outfit but now anticipates getting his chance if the technical bench’s keenness in him is anything to go by and was specifically handpicked by assistant Siyabonga Bhembe.
Commenting about the striker, Bhembe said all would be clear within the next two weeks but Mensah was among those to get registered and play for the club alongside Tshepo ‘Sikhwama’ Matete while Siphamandla Sangweni was also a huge possibility but they still had to take people for disciplinary then the future will be clear.
Highlanders’ current foreign contingent is made up of former Platinum Stars’ centre back Siphamandla Mlilo, Gadla, Sangweni (Thamsanqa) and Kenneth Moloto from ABC Motsepe side, Ally’s Tigers while Mensah has a contract but is unregistered.
