MTN LEAGUE OFF FOR 2 WEEKS
MBABANE – There will be no football action for the next two weeks as the MTN Premier League gives way for the Incwala main day and the COVID-19 testing.
The postponed fixtures are for week three and four of the MTN League and the MTN National First Division League week three fixtures. The Incwala main day is billed for this weekend, pending confirmation while the following week is for the teams to do an assessment as far as the COVID-19 regulations are concerned.
The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) had earlier released a two-week fixture before Christmas and majority of teams have already resumed their training sessions after Christmas in preparations for the games that have since been postponed. PLE Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati said the league games would resume January 16/ 17 2021, where they are going to release a revised fixture.
Advised
“Please kindly be advised that due to the ongoing National Prayer, Incwala, the resumption of the league games after the festive break has been postponed for a period of two weeks. Consequently, we shall resume play on the weekend of January 16/ 17 2021 and the secretariat will duly release the revised fixture,” reads statement from Vilakati.
Vilakati said the extended break helps the teams monitor, asses their players and ensure that the resumption is not delayed by cases of COVID-19. Since the resumption of football on December 12, 2020, two games were cancelled due to COVID-19 related incidents and less than 10 players tested positive for coronavirus.
Message from PLE: This pandemic is real, let us always adhere to the stipulated health precautions. Remember to sanitise regularly, wash your hands with soap and clean water, always wear your face mask properly and maintain social distancing.
