75% EARNINGS DROP FOR NOBUHLE
MBABANE – The COVID-19 pandemic came at a cost for golfer Nobuhle Dlamini, who only earned almost a quarter of her total earnings compared to last year.
The rough effects of the catastrophic year drove the Eswatini golfer down the list of low earners of 2020 in the Sunshine Ladies Tour golf tournaments.
Nonetheless, she remains the highest paid Eswatini sportsperson this year.
The South Africa-based professional golfer netted a total of E155 536.57 in six tournaments.
This is almost a quarter of her 2019 total winnings as she managed to net E435 480 in 11 tournaments last season, which reflects a deficit of E279 943.43.
The 2019 Investec champion has collectively pocketed over E1 million in prizes since the beginning of her career, with the best single prize money being E72 000 won from the Investec Royal Swazi 2019.
Her golf records show that she had eight eagles and 293 birdies in 89 rounds.
Dlamini turned professional in January 2014 and is a long driver, with an average drive of 268 yards.
She earned LET membership in category 8A for this year when she finished tied in fourth position at the Lalla Aicha Tour School Final Qualifying.
Ranked
Ranked number 611 on the Rolex Rankings with an average of 3.37 points, Dlamini’s best rank this year, which happens to be the worst, is 675.
She could not be reached for comment on her overall performance this year but the calendar looks quite busy for her after the Sunshine Ladies Tour released an eighth season of the women’s professional circuit, kicking off with the Cape Town Ladies Open at Royal Cape Golf Club from February 3-5.
The six week-long tournaments are capped by the Investec South African Women’s Open from 18-20 March in the City of Cape Town and carry a total sponsorship of E2.5 million.
