I MISLED SANGWENI - SA AGENT
MBABANE – He has been given a second chance to prove his professionalism at Mbabane Highlanders.
That is former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni. Through his agent, interesting his name is Ally Tlhoaele, he apologised to the club yesterday.
The agent met with the club’s boss, Chief Ally Kgomongwe yesterday in reaction to yesterday’s back page report by this publication that the midfielder had not returned to work since Sunday and allegedly told officials he was not returning.
“I am in a meeting with Thami Sangweni’s agent and I believe we’ve reached an understanding and he knows Highlanders are a big team just like Sangweni understands. His agent has come to see me about it and explained that Sangweni asked him to come as he had believed he was to return next year after the holidays,” Kgomongwe explained.
He said the agent, who is also related to Kgomongwe, said the player was remorseful and wanted to return and play for the team.
Kgomongwe asked not to get into the ill-discipline issues for now, but emphasised the midfielder would return next week.
Tlhoaele (agent) confirmed the apology. “I am personally responsible for the player not returning on time as I had directly asked the Chief when he would return to Eswatini and he said after the holidays. So, I assumed the player could return in the new year, which is how he missed his return date,” he clarified.
Return
Tlhoaele also added that Sangweni made it clear to him he was willing to return and show respect, especially because he also fell in love with his teammates, mentioning a few names including Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze. “He’s happy to be in Eswatini as he is well taken care of and paid well and further received his salary,” the agent added.
Meanwhile, he said any other issues with the player were between him and the club upon return while striker Mandisa Gadla is now the only one facing the axe after absconding as well.
