MBABANE – They are keeping only the best.

Moneni Pirates have put seven players on the transfer list submitted to the management committee by the Ernest Mavuso-led technical bench. The Manzini giants, who recently unveiled a new director, initially had a squad of 30 players but the technical bench was given an ultimatum to bring down the number to 23. Asked about these developments yesterday, Mavuso confirmed having forwarded the list of 23 players he will use for the season to the MC. Apparently, the coach had been given Tuesday as the deadline to submit the list and he obliged.
“I cannot deny that a list of 23 players that will be registered for this season has been submitted to the MC for approval. It is not for me to reveal the names of the players that are staying or going, but you can contact the MC for such information,” the coach pleaded. Asked on how he felt about the 23 players at his disposal, Mavuso was honest enough to admit that ideally, he would have loved to keep the 30 players.

Obviously

“It is going to be a long tiring season and 30 players would have been ideal for me but obviously, my hands were tied on this one because management made it clear that they wanted 23 players,” the experienced coach said. Pirates’ spokesperson Mhlonishwa Motsa could only attest that they have received the list of 23 players from the coach but declined to reveal names.
“Moneni Pirates has committed itself to keeping a very competitive and manageable squad in the new season and every player that has a contract with the team remains important to us whether they have made it into the coaches list or the first eleven of any game, we will play,” Motsa said.

Assure

He was quick to assure that they would honour all their contractual obligations as they put professionalism ahead of everything. “It is therefore our contractual obligation that any player who has a contract with us and is probably not in the final list is engaged and his future is deliberated with a clear mindset that prioritises his career. ‘‘Until those engagements and deliberations have been made, we cannot therefore issue out the list of the final 23 or those transferred,” Motsa added.
