E3.5M BUDGET FOR SIGWACA RENOVATIONS
MBABANE – The exercise won’t come cheap.
The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) has set aside E3.5 million for revamping Sigwaca House, the headquarters of the country’s football mother body. Construction work has been going on for days now in both the exterior and interior of the building. On the other hand, highly-placed sources have confided to this publication that the initial budget of the renovations approved by the EFA executive was E3.5 million. “The initial budget approved was E3.5 million, however, it transpired that other needs for the renovations could not be met as the funds seem to be insufficient,” confided a source. EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe had confirmed that renovations were taking place as the building as it was very old and worn out.
Renovations
Radebe did not want to disclose the costs for the renovations as he claimed that was administrative and will be reported to the appropriate forum, which he said was the next Annual General Meeting (AGM). “We cannot deny the fact that renovations are taking place to upgrade the building as it is old and was now dilapidated. As you have seen, the renovations are also taking place at the premises of the building outside to address drainage issues,” said Radebe. He added that they also had to fix the roofing as the building was old and water would leak during rainy days. Upon completion of the renovations, Radebe said that part was technical and only the constructors were privy of that information and said what he knew was that they were carrying out phase one of the renovation process.
Holidays
“The renovations commenced when the EFA employees were still on the festive holidays before they had to report back to work tomorrow (last week Thursday) for the start of the 2021 year,” he said. A visit paid by the Times Sports Desk to the EFA building, which also houses the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) offices proved that serious construction work was underway. On the building premises outside, a drainage tunnel was found being dug by construction personnels. Inside the building, the old ceiling was removed and painting of the interior was done by other construction personnel working on the inside. Floor tiles were noted in some parts of the building, downstairs especially, removed to be replaced with new ones, among other renovations.
